Apothekerpraktikum und Studium der Pharmazie in München sowie Kandidatenzeit und Approbation zum Apotheker.

Promotion in Pharmazeutischer Technologie bei Prof. Dr. Elsa Ullmann, anschließend Post-doc in Gainesville, Florida, bei Prof. Dr. E.R. Garrett.

Von 1970 bis 1975 Habilitation in Pharmazeutischer Technologie, Schwerpunkt Biopharmazie.

1976 Ernennung zum Privatdozenten und Berufung zum Professor und Direktor des neu gegründeten Instituts für Pharmazeutische Technologie der Universität Düsseldorf.

Forschungsschwerpunkte: Wirkstoffpenetration durch die Haut, perorale Retard-Arzneiformen und Optimierung der Lösungseigenschaften schwer löslicher Arzneistoffe.

Von 2004 bis 2020 wissenschaftlicher Beirat der Galenus-Privatstiftung.

Seit 2005 ist Bernhard Lippold Emeritus.
